The benefits of HDTV can be enjoyed with HD converter equipment and your television catering analog screen. The reverse process of taking an analog signal and formatting it to be an output for a HDTV which enhances the quality is also possible with the converter. Taking the example of an analog television with a resolution of 480i, where the Cathode Ray tube has say 240 lines and your TV screen has 480 lines, interlaced scanning of the alternating lines is performed for 1/60th of a second to display the complete picture vertically. Though these plasma type render a consistent watch time of 60,000 hours, several factors disfavour the plasma HDTVs, like their immense power consumption that can be as high as 500 watts and their heavier nature than LCD screens.

There is no divergence in the resolution factor of Full HDTV LCDs and plasma HDTV. The LCDs deliver superior quality pictures with contrast ratio scaling up till 30K and higher refresh rates of about 240Hz and reduced time to refresh by 2ms .All these features project the LCDs as the best pick for gaming consoles.

The inexpensive nature of LCDs is an added advantage to its capability of being mounted on the wall and the longer life span. They are devoid of the issues with screen burns. The areas of development are identified as the slow response times that have led to the subdued quality of quickly moving images.

The HDTVs can be intensified with several modifications like the usage of HD set-top box instead of normal cables thereby ensuring the accuracy of input to the television. They are useful in projecting the DVD pictures of standard definition to high definition ones.

Some great advances this year in home theater have been cheaper Blu-ray players and movies, the proliferation of online TV and movie services to feed content to your computer or TV, and HDTVs themselves that are getting connected to online services. Roku, the company that wowed the tech world with a $99 device to play Netflix’s growing catalog of streaming Internet movies and TV shows, has a new version, the Roku HD-XR ($129*). For an extra $30, you get built-in Wireless-N to stream Netflix and other online services such as YouTube, Amazon Video and Pandora Music to your TV set. If you’re all wired up, the original Roku still sells for $99 and can also serve up HD video.

If you prefer a more traditional, disc-based way of enjoying your movies, the BD 390 Blu-ray Player ($299.95*) from LG is the best of both worlds. It’s purported to load movies faster than the older generation of sluggish Blu-ray players and has Netflix streaming as well.

Then again, who needs a separate box when a new HDTV can bring you Internet movies on its own? Mitsubishi’s LT-52249 LCD TV ($3,099*) can access Pandora, Flickr photos, Facebook and 1080p-quality movies from Vudu, which sells and rents movies. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s helping usher in an era when most HDTVs will be able to get you online without a separate set-top box.

Much less expensive but very useful is Hannspree’s 25-inch LCD Monitor ($259.99). It doubles as a high-contrast 1080p HDTV; you can connect your devices to it with an included HDMI port.

In May 2008, Samsung reported that it planned to outperform the LCD TV market with a bold plan to push new LED HDTV technology onto the market. Its LED plans worked well for the company and it quickly gobbled up about 59.8% of the global LED LCD TV market in 2009 reports Reuters.

Samsung reports that it expects to sell at least 2 million LED LCD TVs in 2009 and it has even more lofty goals for its LED sets in 2010. Samsung has its sights set on a five times increase in LED HDTV sales in 2010 with at least 10 million units sold.

LG 50PS3000 50-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p Plasma TV with Freeview

HDTV sales are seemingly bucking the trend… With the economy and job market awry, some impacted consumers after a new TV have simply been shopping for smaller LCD screens – but many are buying plasma sets to get more screen for less money. In the realm of large screens, lower-resolution 720p plasma HDTVs are substantially cheaper than similar-sized 1080p LCD TVs.

Plasma HDTV sales have soared by 42% in the second quarter of this year compared to the first, according to a report from Quixel Research. Tamaryn Pratt, a member of Quixel, said the spike was a result of consumers trying to save money.
